Composing and Arranging
O.K., so this looks like a clean slate. Anyone want to join me for a discussion of what\'s cool and what\'s not in the subject of arranging?

Absolutely. I\'d like to start with taking full orchestra pieces down to a brass-quintet size. This is a wonderful and challenging way to truly
exercise your skills. Knowing which notes to pick out and what sounds the best as far as chosing a key for your instrumentation. Let\'s discuss
your favourite brass quintets or even brass ensembles.
I\'ll start with mine Empire Brass and German Brass.

I have a bunch of duets, trios, brass quintets and pieces for 5 trumpets available for download on my website. I have been writing like crazy. Lot\'s
of Christmas music as well. I know it\'s a shameless self promotion, but hey, this is show BIZ.

I had an awesome duet book you sent to me in the mail probably 3 or 4 years ago. Unfortunately one of my buddies took it off to school with him. That
book got a lot of use.

As a Mahler-worshipping, Symphony writing, trumpet player who can also play horn...
I have 6 completed Symphonies (the 2nd has no brass... ) and am currently working
on number seven... My orchestrations USUALLY consist of Piccolo, 3 Flutes, 2 C Oboes, 1 F Oboe (Cor Anglis), 3 Bb Clarinets, 1 Bass Clarinet, 1
Contrabass Clarinet, 1 to 3 Bassoons, Contrabasson, anywhere from 3 to 16+ Horns, 1 to 6 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (Cym., Gong,
Snare, Bass), Harp, Piano, Violins, Violas, Violoncellos, Basses...... )
As for Arranging.... The only SERIOUS arrangements are O Holy Night, and that doesn\'t really even feature trumpet, and Ropartz\'s Andante et
Allegro.
But as for Hot/Not stuff:
Hot:
-Brass and Timpani
-Trumpet and Organ/Piano/Harp
-Trumpet and Orchestra
-Multiple Trumpet Solos
-Trills
-Legato Passages
-Occasional Rests (for breath/water break)
Not:
-Trumpet with SMALL String Ensemble...it just doesn\'t work.
-Too Many High Notes
-Too Many LOW Notes
That\'s my input, hope it helps.
