In the beginning, there was the Telecaster and the single pickup Esquire. You could get one in the blonde finish and that was it. Over the decades, Fender has made concessions to the changing musical styles and the needs of both novice and pro guitarists, which has led to an astonishing array of Telecasters with new colors, special finishes and upgraded electronics. The American Series is at the heart of the Tele line, so it was only natural that Fender chose this guitar from among all the others to use as the basis for its Diamond Anniversary Edition Telecaster®.Though it maintains much of what is special about the American Series, like the solid alder body in three-color sunburst, it adds a few decidedly vintage features, most noticeable of which is the sharper '52 body profile and parchment pickguard.

Solid maple neck with Modern "C" shape and jeweled headstock:

As mentioned, Leo Fender wasn't a guitar player. So he had no idea that guitars weren't supposed to have maple necks. But in time, those blonde maple necks and fingerboards became a Fender trademark, though the company eventually offered rosewood fingerboards on most of its models for players that preferred the warmer, more traditional feel. For the 60th Anniversary American Tele®, it's back to the basics with a modern "C" shape maple neck and a satin polyurethane finish that's more in keeping with today's player preferences. Now top it off with a jeweled, Diamond Anniversary headstock. It's the perfect combination of old and new!

Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets:

Although the original Tele had a maple fingerboard, Fender made the right call here by adding the visual appeal of a traditional rosewood fingerboard with beautifully finished rolled edges, pearloid dot inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets that let you easily bend notes or produce a sweet, fluid vibrato. Oh, and it's pretty darn good for those big power chords, as well.

Two new American Vintage Tele single coil pickups:

The original Tele pickups had more twang than any two "normal" guitars put together, thanks to the single coil pickups in the bridge and neck positions. The 60th Anniversary Tele has pickups that pretty much look the same, but they're actually specially-designed American Vintage Tele single-coils that are voiced to let you go from mild to manic and everywhere in between. The controls include a three-position blade switch plus a master volume and master Delta Tone™, which includes a high output bridge pickup and special "no-load" tone circuitry. Careful you don't burn your fingers!
